Discovery

Here's a little bit of work I collaborated on with Jedd Chevrier for a creative production studio by the name of Eydea Studios. This is a sci-fi type scene to which I designed everything you hear. Check it out!

This was a pretty fun piece to do. It was pretty much another a still visual done entirely from scratch by Jedd to which I was given the responsibility of creating a soundscape to. An opportunity to have complete control over every aspect of sound straight from the beginning of the process to the final product is pretty rare, so I went at it. I first designed an environment that I felt fit the visual and could audibly put you right there with these soldiers. Background sound, sound effects (and other such things you'll hear that are not music or dialogue) are what sell the visual as being real, whether it be a movie, TV show, videogame...you get the idea. But what are they doing? Where are they going? Questions like these are answered by dialogue - which generally holds the story content of this type of stuff. As you can tell, I didn't have access to professional voice actors, but for my roommate and I talking into a microphone at my house, I think it turned out great. Finally, there's the music. The music is the most important part of any type of production. Then again, maybe I'm biased because I'm a music guy. But the music is what drives your emotions to compliment the story content of dialogue and the realism brought to you by the sound effects. The music here is very subtle, maybe unnoticeable on the first listen; but I felt like it was just enough to fill what was missing.

Big thanks to Rich Mills from Eydea Studios for letting me display this stuff. Check out some of his work, he's great.
